Three Beauty Products Said to Contain Poison

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Malaysia’s health ministry released a statement cautioning the public to refrain from using three cosmetic products as it is said to contain scheduled poisons of tretinoin, azelaik acid and mercury.

The three products are; Aveana Night Revival Cream which contained tretinoin, Blemished Skin Ampoules which contained azelaik acid and Golden Horse B&W Cream-GH902-1 which contained mercury.

Using products containing tretinoin can cause redness, irritation, stinging and peeling. It will also make your skin super sensitive to sunlight.  According to Pharmaceutical Services Senior Director, Datuk Eisah A. Rahman, azelaik acid is used to treat acne and rosacea, a chronic condition where the face becomes red in the forehead, nose and cheeks. Using it without proper advice and supervision can cause a burning sensation to one’s skin.

Products which had mercury mixed in it for skin lightening, anti-aging, pigmentation, uneven skin tone and wrinkles were banned as it could harm one’s health.

“Mercury contained in cosmetic products can damage the kidneys and nervous system. It can also interfere with brain development in young children,” she said.

Companies who were responsible for the products mentioned above were ordered to take them off the shelf within 72 hours.

If you are currently using these products and have experienced any adverse effects, contact the National Pharmacautical Control Bureau at 03 78835532 or 03 78835534.
