See a Snapshot of UN’s 2015 Human Development Report (video)

The 2015 Human Development Report has been released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The report discusses the changing world of human development, paid and unpaid work and sustainability.

In this video, Selim Jahan, the document’s lead author and the director of UNDP’s Human Development Report Office (HDRO), discusses the report, which launched on 14th December in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The report takes a look at the changing world of human development, gender imbalances, paid and unpaid work, sustainable work and policy options. It also aims to take on a broader notion of work which goes beyond exploitative jobs.

Work usually enhances human development, but at the same time it can damage it. The world of work is changing very fast because of globalisation and digital revolution, and there are gender imbalances in work; men dominate the world of paid work and women are engaged in the world of unpaid work.

Dr Jahan concludes that sustainable work is critical for achieving sustainable development. If we really want to enhance human development for work, we need to consider all the strategic policy options to achieve the best level of sustainability. Take a look at the video here:
