The Rotary Club of Langkawi, generously supported by the Westin Langkawi resort, has teamed up with the beautifully scenic Gunung Raya Golf Resort and the outstanding Els Club at Teluk Datai to offer a weekend of world-class golf, with proceeds going to fund the many worthwhile community service initiatives of the Rotary Club during 2016.

No stranger to international-standard golfing, Malaysia has been named as Asia’s Best Golf Destination, and these courses are themselves multiple award winners, too, with the Els Club just named as Asia’s Best Golf Course.

For golfers both casual and competitive, the opportunity to play on both of these very special courses and enjoy a marvellous weekend on a tropical island is one difficult to resist, especially when topped off by a special gala dinner at the Westin Langkawi. And with the proceeds funding the Rotary Club’s laudable initiatives in Langkawi, this is one golf weekend you can feel even better about!

The courses

Els Club1

Gunung Raya Golf Resort is an exhilarating course sprawled over some 300 acres, nestled at the foothills of the majestic Gunung Raya, Langkawi’s highest mountain.

The forest reserve on the mountain is home to plenty of wildlife, such as leaf monkeys, flying foxes, mountain hawk eagles, hornbills, and more.

Golfing at the base of such an imposing mountain is particularly rewarding, as the scenery is breathtaking – all augmented, of course, by the meticulous landscaping of the course, which was designed by renowned American golf architect Max Wexler.

Amid the lush landscape of the course, golfers will encounter beautiful rolling greens, panoramic tees, and impeccable fairways, beautifully contoured with sand traps and water hazards.

Stunning scenery and an international-standard course are also the order of business at the magnificent Els Club Teluk Datai, situated on Langkawi’s northwest coast. Nestled masterfully within a million-year-old rainforest with towering lush tropical foliage meandering its way towards the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea beneath the marbled limestone peaks of the Mat Chinchang Mountain range, the course at the Els Club Teluk Datai is truly a sight to behold.

It’s not for nothing that the club was named at the World Golf Awards as both Asia’s Best New Golf Course and the World’s Best New Golf Course upon its opening in 2014. And not content to rest on those laurels, this amazing course just cemented its top-tier status by being named Asia’s Best Golf Course at the most recent World Golf Awards in Faro, Portugal.

Playing host to the final evening’s spectacular gala BBQ dinner, the Westin Langkawi resort is particularly well-experienced in handling such occasions, and has worked closely with events large and small, including hosting dinner and cocktail evenings at the annual Royal Langkawi International Regatta for several years.

The newly opened Langkawi International Convention Centre, which is immediately adjacent to the Westin Langkawi, is under the shared management of the Westin and its soon-to-open sister resort, the stunning St. Regis Langkawi, ensuring a fully-fledged pedigree that can deliver outstanding service and handle events with both professionalism and top-of-class style.

With its breathtaking location on the southeast coast of the island, the Westin Langkawi affords guests consistently beautiful sunsets over the Andaman Sea and neighbouring islands, and the Westin’s exceptional hospitality ensures that guests will be well-looked after at all times… an excellent choice for hosting what’s certain to be a most enjoyable gala dinner to conclude the weekend tournament!

And all this golfing goes to support the outstanding community service efforts of the Rotary Club of Langkawi.

A laudable service organisation with a remarkable track record over its 111-year existence, Rotary International has over 34,000 clubs worldwide with some 1.2 million members, all seeking to play a part in an organization whose stated purpose is

“to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.”

The small island of Langkawi, Malaysia chartered its own Rotary Club in March 2013, and it didn’t take long for the Club to start making a positive impact on the island. Today, its signature project is cleaning up the Kilim Karst River, one of Langkawi’s most important waterways and an integral part of Langkawi’s UNESCO Geopark.

However, the Club does plenty more throughout the year, and charitable events such as the 2016 RCL Masters Golf Tournament play an important role in helping the Club fund its service-oriented endeavours on Langkawi Island.

How do I join?

If you’re interested in a wonderful weekend of golf and camaraderie for a good cause, be sure to join in for what’s certain to be a great time on the weekend of April 16-17, 2016. An entrance fee of just RM700 per golfer covers two 18-hole rounds of golf at these remarkable world-class courses, buggy rental, a quality golf shirt, and a fantastic gala dinner to be held at the luxurious Westin Langkawi resort on Sunday night, with amazing prizes up for grabs!
