6 places to celebrate Oktoberfest 2016 in Malaysia

Did you know that Oktoberfest actually starts in mid-September? Well, we didn’t either until very recently. But that’s a story for another day. Right now, we’re focusing on Oktoberfest parties, celebrations and events where you can enjoy some traditional German beer and food – because in Malaysia, too, Oktoberfest lasts the entire month. Here’s a list of some of the places to get your beer on:

1. Brotzeit

Brotzeit has scheduled a two-day party at their Mid Valley outlet, promising two nights of Bavarian fun complete with Paulaner Musikanten. All Brotzeit outlets in the country will also be serving an Oktoberfest Platter featuring their signature pork knuckle, lumberjack steaks, garlic sausages, gypsy belly bacon, and a trio of sausages, served with sauerkraut and potato salad. You can also witness the traditional barrel tapping at Brotzeit Sunway Pyramid on 1st October.

2. 1 Utama, Bandar Utama

For its 12th year, 1 Utama is celebrating Oktoberfest with a bang, this time for four days straight on their 5th floor Rooftop Carpark. There will be performances by German band Die Emsperlen; German delicacies cooked by Euro Deli and award-wining German chef Jochen Kernmaestros;  as well as several entertaining games like hat switching, barrel rolling, arm wrestling, and more. The best thing is that entry to this party is free.

3. Royal Selangor Golf Club

The Royal Selangor Golf Club is also throwing an Oktoberfest party in their main lounge with ‘good food, good music, and good friends’. As expected, there will be free flow beer and refreshment. You can also expect a special appearance by Oompah band Die Emsperlen who will be providing the music for the day.

4. Malaysian German Society, Penang

The Malaysian German Society (MGS) in Penang is promising a lively party with original German Oktoberfest draught beers like Löwenbräu and Erdinger and a bottled beers Franziskaner, Erdinger and König Ludwig. You can also enjoy sausages, meatloaf, Sauerkraut, pretzels and more. Local and pork free food such as satay, fish and chips, chicken sausage and more will also be provided as well as non-alcoholic drinks so that everyone can have a great time together.

There will also be two contest for adults – beer drinking and arm wrestling – while the young ones can enjoy games and stalls at the kids-corner. Finally, MGS is also flying in a new Bavarian band from south of Germany called Bayernmän to provide the entertainment for the night.

5. Mutiara Johor Bahru

Mutiara hotel in Johor Bahru is planning a fun-filled celebration over two days with 600 guests to enjoy great food and drinks while being entertained by a five-piece German band. There will also be a lucky draw with the grand prize being a two-way Premium Economy Class air ticket from Lufthansa (Singapore-Frankfurt-Singapore) – one grand prize for each night.

6. Resorts World Genting, Pahang

Turn even your wurst day into a good one at Genting’s Oktoberfest party at The Patio wine and whisky bar. As usual, you can expect the best German beers, food, and general revelry. There will be a live band performance and several competitions including beer holding and speed eating.
