So here’s a little Christmas gift from PM Datuk Seri Najib Razak to those who travel between Sungai Besi and Kajang.

Najib announced at the opening ceremony for Phase 1 of the of the Klang Valley MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) Project that, starting today, trips on both the MRT and feeder buses will be free of charge until 16th January 2017. The stations that are currently open include those between Sungai Besi and Semantan, a total of 12 stations.

The project is a result of an effort to connect the 1.2 million people living in the further areas of the Klang Valley to Kuala Lumpur and vice versa.

The 51km stretch of railway will be be serviced by four-car trains that are able to carry 20,000 passengers per hour per direction.  The end-to-end travel time of the MRT is estimated to be an impressive 30 minutes.

Separately, Grab has now released a new promotion for rides to and from the open MRT stations. From today until 1st January 2017, you can enjoy 5 rides with RM8 off when you book by card and enter the promo code, “GRABMRT“.

Head to MRT Corp‘s website to find out more about their projects and updates on Phase 2 of the MRT line which is expected to open in July 2017.
