School Snaps: Books and More Books at SJIIM’s World Book Day

There were many exciting firsts at St. Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia this year and they just keep on coming. On March 2nd, wizards, princess’ and creatures of all shapes and sizes were the order of the day when the students from Nursery to High School celebrated SJIIM’s inaugural World Book Day.

From Harry Potter to Little Red Riding Hood to Tom Gates, the elementary school children and staff came to school dressed in costumes portraying their favourite book character and it was a dazzling sight to behold.

There was plenty ofmusic and storytelling and a special dramatic presentation of Roald Dahl’s ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ from the school’s drama co-curricular students. The high school students also joined in the fun and performed scenes fromthe ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘Matilda’, and ‘TheWizard of Oz’ tales in flashmobs around the school. Students engaged with a range of literacy activities designed to promote the love of reading – from designing alternative book covers to completing the World Book Day quiz.

In addition to all the activities, in true Lasallian spirit, the World Book Day proved to be another opportunity to teach SJIIM’s children the value of community and service. This was further shown with many of the children donating a previously loved book which was then collected for the less fortunate.
