Malaysia’s athletes are having a grand time so far at the 29th SEA Games ahead of the official kick-off this weekend. At the moment, Malaysia is leading the medal tally with 3 Gold, 1 Silver, and 3 Bronze medals.

The Men’s Chinlone squad scored Malaysia’s first gold medal yesterday, beating the Philippines 391 to 271. What makes this win sweeter is that the chinlone goal is the first one to be won in the Games. The national chinlone squad have another three categories to complete in: non-repetition primary, same stroke, and non-repetition secondary. We wish them good luck – not that they need it, eh?

Side note: chinelone is a variant of sepak takraw, a caneball sport that combines the element of sport and dance which was added for the first time in the SEA Games back in 2013.

The other two golds were won by the Malaysian archers. The Men’s and Women’s Compound Teams each won in their event, with the men’s team earning victory over Singapore and the women winning over Vietnam to take Malaysia’s gold medal tally up to three. Also in archery, Malaysian archer Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki clinched silver in the individual men’s compound event.

In football, the Harimau Malaya’s reigned victorious in their match against Singapore in the group stages. The 2-1 was a blow to Singapore’s efforts in making it past the group stages with only one match left to make it through after also losing to Myanmar earlier this week. Malaysia’s squad will likely make it through to the next round, inching closer to another medal if they can keep this momentum going.

Malaysia Boleh!
