7 Ramadan Food Bazaars in the Klang Valley to Check Out

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

One of the best things during Ramadan is the food, and one does not have to be a Muslim to enjoy the variety of food and drinks available at the nightly bazaars, that usually sprout up around the Klang Valley during this time of the year.

Well-known for their good food and merry festivities, the Ramadan bazaars are not only opened for Muslims to berbuka puasa (break their fast) but also for non-Muslim customers and foreigners to enjoy the spread available at each stall.

Racial, cultural and even religious differences melt away into an exhilarating sense of unity when Malaysians flock magnetically to these bazaars to taste the authentic Malay cuisine and delicacies offered during Ramadan. What better way to reward the heart (or rather, stomach) of the pious than good and warm traditional food? Ramadan bazaars are brimming with the likes of stand-out dishes such as:

  • rendang (meat slowly cooked in coconut milk and spices for hours),
  • fried or grilled chicken wings and legs,
  • satay (seasoned, skewered and grilled meat served with sweet peanut sauce)
  • Bubur lambuk (porridge)
  • Ketupat, lontong, lemang (rice cakes)
  • Kuih lapis, kuih dadar, ondeh ondeh, cucur, dodol (pastries)
  • ayam percik (marinated and charcoal-roasted chicken in spicy coconut gravy)
  • roti murtabak (wrap-style bread stuffed with different fillings)
  • nasi kerabu (blue-colored rice salad), and so much more!

Ramadan bazaars usually open around 4.30pm and closes by 7.30pm (most of the food will be gone by then, anyway!).
