The Expat Wine Dinner at TAO Chinese Cuisine

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Chinese cuisine, though popular throughout the world, isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind when planning a wine dinner. However, we had no doubt that the pros at InterContinental’s Tao Chinese Restaurant would rise to the occasion for this special Expat Wine Dinner, our third to be held at the landmark fivestar KL hotel in the last couple of years. Guests were delighted with the offered canapés of deep-fried boneless chicken wings, katafi rolls, and marinated cherry tomatoes, passed around before everyone took their seats for the meal.

A six-course lineup started with a fried oyster with mango salsa and a honey glazed chicken roll, followed by a delicious double-boiled seafood soup served in coconuts, a baked cod filler with a spicy pomelo plum sauce, a creative slow-roasted chicken drumstick served in a large baked bun, and poached Shanghai potstickers with a tangy garlic sauce. Individual portions were kept reasonable given the number of courses, so everyone still had room to enjoy the rich layer cake served with green tea ice cream and a warm chocolate sauce. Every course was accompanied by a California wine from Duncan Creek and Eagleridge Wineries. Diners enjoyed Moscato, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Judging by the smiling faces and positive comments, everyone on hand had a terrific time!
