The Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Malaysia, K. Godage, has been recalled to Colombo after a comment made towards Tamil Sri Lankan groups.
According to a report in the New Straits Times, K. Godage has served in Malaysia for eight months after being called out of a 15-year retirement to be posted in Malaysia. He was asked to return to Colombo because he is believed to have angered Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister, for being too sympathetic to pro-Sri Lankan Tamil groups in Malaysia.
The 76 year old is expected to return to Sri Lanka at the end of August. In reply to his sacking, the Commissioner has written a letter of appeal to External Affairs Minister Prof G.L. Peiris, who is apparently the main person behind his sacking. It is believed that at a recent meeting of Sri Lankan envoys in Colombo, the High Commissioner has asked for answers to questions posed by pro-Sri Lankan Tamil Malaysian groups on what was being done for Sri Lankan Tamils.
In his letter which is published on a blog, he says “I cannot quite believe it that you of all people had me ‘Recalled.’”
“In consideration of the work I have done in the past eight months I shall be thankful if you would have this decision withdrawn and permit me to continue to serve you and our government as I have done these past eight months.”
