Don’t Get into Taxis if there is a Passenger Inside

The Malaysian police has advised the public to not take taxis with passengers already inside as a safety measure.

According to Bernama.com, this advice is in light of a robbery which took place last night on the Maju Expressway.

A passenger, an Indian national worker, got into a taxi which already had two other passengers inside (locals) to travel back to his home in Kajang. Unfortunately for the worker,  the driver and the two passengers threatened to kill the worker if he did not hand over his money. The worker had no choice but to hand over his money. After robbing him of RM3,000, they left him on the side of the highway.

Expat Go Malaysia recommends that all expats and locals exercise caution, and not get into taxis with other passengers. It is also best not to share a taxi with a fellow passenger from bus stops and train stations if you do not know them.
