Elections Must Take Place This Year

The government is required to hold an election before the end of their five-year term on June 27th this year. The election was widely expected to be held last year, but that did not happen, so now predictions are that it will be called early this year.

The ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional, is the longest-serving elected party in the world, having been in power since 1955. Many Malaysians are calling for a change but the government has also made some significant changes of its own with its ambitious Government and Economic Transformation Programmes. These programmes are already seeing some traction, and this is slowly being recognised by Malaysians who were previously unhappy with the government’s performance.
