It looks like GoPro’s action cams are in for some tough competition. Sony recently launched its HDR-AS30V Action Cam, which is 33% lighter than its predecessor, the Sony Action Camcoder HDR-AS15. This new version comes with 170 degree Tessar lens from Carl Zeiss. A standard on all Sony action cams now, the HDR-AS30V also has a 16.8 megapixel sensor from Exmor- R.

There are other great options like GPS, speed indicator and super slow motion in this one. If you want to take it underwater, you can do so with the waterproof casing. Sony says its new action cam can handle the most treacherous conditions. It just weighs 3 ounces and you can strap it to your helmet, to your surfboard or even to your motorcycle’s handlebar.

This action cam can also take Full HD videos. If you want to take still shots, that is also possible. When you want to collect what you have recorded, you don’t need to connect it to a computer. The HDR-AS15 has been provided with Wi-Fi connectivity. You can now easily share your pictures and videos through your smart-phone.

Controlling the action cam is easy. You can do so via your smart-phone or through a Live-View Remote, which you can strap on your wrist. You can use it to frame your shots, start and stop recording and even take photos.

Sony has provided a number of mounts for the action cam. For instance, there is a harness to mount the camera on your chest, a mount for your roll bar and even a mount to put the camera on your dog.

When will the Sony Action Cam Launch in Malaysia?

On September 13th, in reply to a fan’s query on Sony Malaysia’s Facebook page, a company spokesman said that no tentative date has been fixed for the launch of the Sony Action Cam HDR-AS30V in Malaysia yet. The spokesperson also said that they will confirm the launch date on the website, once it is decided.
