The Expat Wine Dinner at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It was a great evening at Brotzeit when hungry expats showed up for a recent wine dinner featuring some outstanding food from this German restaurant in Mid Valley. It didn’t take long to get to the good stuff, either. As guests arrived and chatted amiably, Brotzeit staff brought around tasty Nürnberger sausages, savoury meatballs, and a vegetarian spinach pizza, all accompanied by flutes of crisp Cronier sparkling rosé wine.

As diners eagerly took their seats, the first course saw a generous bowlful of hot cream of pumpkin soup appear, accented with pistachio dumplings and paired with a Louis Guntrum Piesporter Michelsberg Riesling. The entrée was presented next:a medley of Bavarian treats including marinated pork medallions with bacon, a pork fillet on a bed of spicy lentils, and tender pork dumplings. It was a lot of food and diners happily washed down all this delicious German fare with another German Riesling, a this time a Louis Guntrum Neirsteiner Spätlese Trocken.

Brotzeit may have just saved the best for last as a trio of plated desserts were served to rave reviews. A white chocolate delight punctuated with crispy bacon enrobed in dark chocolate, accompanied by a hot cinnamon and sugar-coated apple fritter, and a lovely chilled spiced red wine with vanilla ice cream. Appropriately, the final course was served with a terrific Louis Guntrum Gewürztraminer Spätlese.

The evening wound down much as it had started, with expats making new friends, chatting amiably, and enjoying each other’s company. A marvellously Bavarian venue, great food, excellent wines, and a thoroughly enjoyable group of contented diners… what could be better?
