More Than 900 Items Exempt from GST

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A list of 900 items that will be zero-rated and exempted from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in April next year was recently unveiled by the Government.

According to The Star, zero-rated goods refer to goods that consumers need not pay GST for. Exempt goods are free of the tax all along the value chain.

Some of the items on the zero-rated list included food items such as sheep, goats, swine, cows, ducks, geese and more – both alive and frozen. Seafood is also included in the list.

The Star also wrote that GST should not be a concern for consumers when purchasing food items such as fresh and salted eggs, a variety of vegetables like potatoes, tomatoes, cabbages and more.

Fruits such as rambutans, durians, langsat and even coconuts are on the GST-free list. Also, coffee, tea and an array of spices, rice, pastas and noodles have also been exempted.

Other items on the GST-exempted list included newspapers, journals, dictionaries, note books, education and healthcare services.
