Johor Mingle at Oasis

Though it may not be quite like the Deep South of the U.S., with its mouthwatering BBQ and deep-fried everything, Johor is Malaysia’s version, and much like its American counterpart, it’s pretty hot and humid in the Malaysian Deep South, too. For The Expat Group’s very first Mingle event here in Malaysia’s southernmost state, a great expat crowd was treated to a fun and relaxed evening of food, free-flow beer, and enjoyable company.

Generously hosted and catered by Thistle Hotels and Resorts’ beautiful Thistle Johor Bahru hotel, the Mingle was a smash success and Johor expats were unanimous in their appreciation and praise for both the event and the venue. With food and cold beer provided courtesy of Thistle, over 100 expat Minglers – and a few locals, too – had plenty to nibble and drink while they chatted and enjoyed the evening’s amiably festive atmosphere.

Like our Mingles in KL and Penang, a fortunate few made off with more than good food and drinks. The winners of the Lucky Draw were treated to excellent prizes including F&B vouchers, complimentary personal trainer sessions, and coveted vouchers for Thistle Hotels. Guests also received a RM20 voucher for Uber, along with a 20% off coupon for Body Works Spa & Fitness in their goodie bags! A big thanks to the business who sponsored the great prizes, including FitBird, Salina Arshad Property Agency, Brazzo, George & Dragon Café, Kari Tree, and the Straits F&B Group.

We have already received plenty of requests for another Johor Mingle, and are eager to meet more of our Johor friends soon, so keep an eye out both in The Expat and www.expatgomalaysia for another opportunity to mix and mingle in Malaysia’s Deep South.

A very special thanks to our generous hosts at Thistle Johor Bahru!
