5 Reasons to Live in KL’s Bukit Ceylon Neighbourhood

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

This post is brought to you in part by Verticas Residensi.

The Bukit Ceylon neighbourhood has the best of both worlds; it’s dead close to the buzzing Bukit Bintang entertainment district – indeed, Jalan Ceylon actually connects to the ever-alive Changkat Bukit Bintang – but it’s also just far enough away to get some peace and quiet.

This tranquillity is thanks in part to the nearby Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve – and that fact also means that Bukit Ceylon is in the shadow of the gorgeous KL Tower. So, if you live in the area, you can watch the daily light show for free and in the comfort of your own home.

Let’s have a look into some of the best aspects of life in Bukit Ceylon.

1. Shop till you drop – home is nearby anyway

Bukit Bintang is arguably the best shopping district in Malaysia – and with the enormous electronics outlet Plaza Low Yat so close, too, some would argue that it’s the best in all of Southeast Asia.

The major shopping destinations in the vicinity include the world-class Pavilion, Star Hill Gallery, Lot 10, Berjaya Times Square and The Weld, all of which are walking distance. Even Suria KLCC , part of the astonishing Petronas Towers complex, is only 5 minutes by taxi – so it’s a piece of cake to get to the city’s major business district, too.

2. Fill up at great nearby restaurants

Talking of cake, Bukit Bintang also has some brilliant food outlets. From the frantic and fantastic Jalan Alor, serving authentic local food, to the ever-present Malaysian staple of Madam Kwan, to the high-end Asian cuisine of Din Tai Fung, regional cuisine is very well represented.

Those looking for international fare have plenty to choose from, including Italian at Werners, Spanish at El Cerdo and French at Le Bouchon, all of which are very close. Even modern western-style (and borderline hipster!) coffee shops are springing up, at Feeka and VCR.

3. Things to see, people to help

Many of KL’s famous landmarks, such as the Bird Park, Aquaria KLCC, the national mosque and the Islamic Arts Museum, the Thean Hou temple and Merdeka Square are all easily accessible from Bukit Ceylon and many are walkable.

Chinatown and the Central Market are both just 20 minutes on foot and close to these is Hospital Tung Shin. So medical assistance is not far away. Alternatively, if you need international or diplomatic help, seek out nearby Jalan Ampang; a huge proportion of the city’s foreign embassies are located here.

4. Location, location, location

Being so close to Bukit Bintang and KLCC, the Bukit Ceylon neighbourhood also enjoys great public transport links, including monorail stations at Imbi, Raja Chulan and Bukit Bintang itself, the Plaza Rakyat LRT station, plus Berjaya Times Square and Pudu Sentral bus stations .

For somewhere so central, Bukit Ceylon has great accessibility to other areas of the Klang Valley and beyond. Entry to the Maju Expressway, also known as the MEX Highway, is just five minutes by car (or 15 minutes during rush hour). This 26km-long highway links the city centre to the international airports KLIA1 and KLIA2, as well as Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.

The MEX entry ramp is located on Jalan Tun Razak, close to the entrance of the Royal Selangor Golf Club. Here, you can also enter the SMART Tunnel, which will whisk you away to the Seremban Expressway or Sungai Besi airport for a very reasonable RM3.00.

Fun fact: this SMART tunnel is the longest tunnel in Malaysia – and the longest multi-purpose tunnel in the world!

5. Investment potential and great accomodation

The area, being so close to international business at KLCC and world-class entertainment at Bukit Bintang, shows great potential for property price appreciation and returns on your money. With Changkat so close, it’s a very popular area for expats and tourists to stay and rent – as such, a large number of new developments have opened in recent times.

Jalan Ceylon alone has seen no fewer than three condominiums open in the last few years, including the state of the art Verticas Residence.

Developed by the WingTai Asia Group, which has holdings in Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore, the Verticas complex comprises three towers of 43-storey-high residential space, including penthouses, and one tower of serviced apartments.

There’s a sky terrace on the 27th floor and a swimming pool, gym and function space on the 5th floor so you and your visitors can sit back, look out over Bukit Ceylon – with a vista including the KL Tower and Petronas Towers – and soak up the buzz from this great little neighbourhood.

Depends on where your work place is. Its a nice quiet area, but totally spoilt by cars using the same road as a short cut to Changkat BB.
