Print Friendly, PDF & Email

On the Titiwangasa Mountains at 1,800 meters between the borders of Pahang and Selangor of Malaysia, Genting Highlands is an integrated resort development with hotels, shopping malls, a theme park, and Malaysia’s only casino. Genting Highlands is a popular weekend getaway as it is about an hour drive from KL and has many attractions and entertainment suitable for the whole family to enjoy. Here are 10 things to do in Genting Highlands:

1. Experience the indoor theme park

While the outdoor theme park is being renovated (see below), families can enjoy the indoor theme park. However, some rides have been closed to make way for 20th Century Fox World theme park. Some available rides include Mini Train, Rio Float, Busy Bugs, and Safari ride.

It’s worth noting that these rides are mainly suitable for families with relatively young children. They’re located inside a boutique-like mall that has some cafes, restaurants and shopping outlets.

2. Play around in Snow City

Close to the indoor theme park is Snow City. Snow City, as you might have guessed, is a mini city covered in snow. It’s about 22.8k sq. and the temperature inside is -6 Celsius. It’s a nice change from the everyday heat we’ve been experiencing lately in KL.

3. Take a ride in the cable car

Riding the cable car is one of the must-do activities in Genting Highlands. It is exhilarating being hundreds of feet up steep mountain slopes! The view is breathtaking; overlooking the lush green mountains couldn’t be more picture perfect. The ride lasts about 15 minutes and it’s a great activity for the whole family.

4. Indulge in strawberries

Visiting the strawberry farm is another great activity suitable for the whole family. At the farm, you can pick and buy your own strawberries. The farm also grows mushrooms, organic bean sprouts, herbs and other vegetables. To complete your strawberry indulgence, why not have strawberry treats at the farm café while looking over the mountains?

5. Try your luck at the casino

The park will be about 25 acres in size and is said to have 25 thrill rides based on popular movies and cartoons such as Ice Age, Life of Pi, Night at the Museum, Planet of the Apes, Titanic, and more.

A total of $US330 million has been invested in the park, making it a future magnet for tourists in and around Southeast Asia. The park is expected to be completed by the end of 2016 or early 2017.

7. Treat yourself to a unique dining experience
