Kuala Lumpur is preparing for the National Day parade next week, which means that many roads in the city around Merdeka Square (Dataran Merdeka) will be shutdown to accommodate rehearsals and the actual celebrations, according to reports by The Malay Mail Online.

Roads will be closed Saturday, 27th August 2016 until Wednesday, 31st August 2016. These closures will happen in stages starting at 6am on 27th August, and will be reopened in stages once the event is over, around 1pm on 31st August.

You’ll want to avoid driving into the city during this time as traffic will definitely be worse than usual. If you must travel into the city, try to use the LRT or monorail services instead.

In the press conference about the 2016 National Day celebrations, Superintendent Mohd Adnan Basri of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation department specified the roads that will be affected and advised road users to use alternative routes these next few days.

He also encouraged the use of public transportation to get into the city, and warned drivers to refrain from parking at roadsides, especially on the affected roads, or risk being towed.
