Here are five anecdotes of AISM students and graduates achieving great things in different areas.

A team of four Year 6 students from the Australian International School Malaysia (AISM) joined together to create a mobile app called “Reshare” for the Technovation Innovation Challenge, a global technology entrepreneurship program for girls aged 19 years and below.

The program, which is supported by large corporations such as Google and Intel, challenges girls from all over the world to build a mobile app, write a business plan and submit a pitch video about their idea which will help address a community problem. This was their pitch video:

They went on be selected as semi-finalists and later also came 4th out of 50 teams at the Young ICT Explorers Challenge, ran by the University of New South Wales in Australia.

3. AISM teams won top prizes at ‘F1 in Schools’ competition

‘F1 in Schools’ is a global multi-disciplinary challenge in which teams of students deploy CAD / CAM software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test and then race miniature, compressed air powered, balsa wood and foam F1 cars. In June, Year 8 AISM Design and Technology students took part in the South East Asia ‘F1 in Schools’ Finals.

AISM teams won the top prize in four of the six categories. During the knockout stages, AISM dominated by holding all four semi-final positions. In addition to designing and constructing the cars, teams were required to raise sponsorship and manage budgets to fund research, travel and accommodation.

The challenge inspired students to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills and financial strategy and apply them in a practical, imaginative, competitive and exciting way.

Five AISM students were chosen to represent the National Association for the Gifted Children, Malaysia (NAGCM) in the Asia-Pacific Forum for Science during July in Taipei, Taiwan.

The NAGC provides support for parents of children with high learning potential. Of every 100 children, at least two can be classified as outstandingly high in intellectual, creative or social ability, and the association aims to help the children – and anyone professionally concerned with their development – fulfil their potential.

They participated in an exciting range of forums, hands-on projects, presentations and cultural events while being outstanding ambassadors for AISM.

5. An AISM student was chosen for Renault’s F4 SEA Driver Development Programme

4-aismAISM Year 12 student, Adam Khalid, was chosen for Renault’s F4 SEA Driver Development Program.

The program provides young drivers with training, career information and guidance through assessments of skill and ability and prepares them for Formula 1 Racing.

Under the F4 SEA Driver Development Programme, Adam will undergo specialised training that will require him to record consistent lap timings and race results to assess his potential on the track.

If all goes well, Adam will progress through the ranks up to Formula 1. Adam, who is in his final pre-university year at AISM, will be sitting for the Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations at the end of September.

Upon his graduation, Adam intends to pursue a Degree in Automotive Engineering or Industrial Design in the United Kingdom.
