November 2016 events in Klang Valley: Chaplin, challenges, and races

Malaysia will be packed with fun events this November including marathons, challenges, music, and boats. We found so many great events that we’ve decided to present them to you in two articles. In this article, we look at events happening within KL, Selangor, and Putrajaya.

1. Great Eastern Viper Challenge

The obstacle event is back at the Sepang International Circuit this year. For the first time, participants will be able to pick a day-time or night-time slot to compete in this challenging 20km + 20 obstacles challenge. Be prepared for a mud bath.

2. Halloween Night Run

Run fast….or else! This Halloween Fun Run will be a fun activity to enjoy with family and friends in celebration of the spooky festival. Come dressed in your best costume and enjoy a number of exciting activities including the 5km fun run. The best costume theme is ‘Be Creepy or be a crepe’. There will also be other activities like a haunted house, a blood sucking water station, cemetery house, and a dance party with ghosts and zombies. The run is only open to those 12 years and older.

3. Charlie Chaplin at the Symphony

The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra presents and evening of comedy and music. First, a classical concert is crashed by a clown who wreaks havoc, and in the second half, viewers  two of Chaplin’s films, Easy Street and The Immigrant, will be screened accompanied by live music from the orchestra.

4. Ride your city

Celebrate all things cycling with this event organized by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur and Pedal Malaya. There will be many activities from domestic and international exhibitions, competitions, workshops, bike movies, talks, bike shows, a treasure hunt, and several bike challenges.

5. Pun Competition

Have Pun Malaysia is organising Malaysia’s first Pun Competition at The Bee. Get ready to laugh your socks off or roll your eyes at the best puns from 35 acts who are competing for the grand prize. If you’re a fan of wordplay and lame punch lines, this event is perfect for you.

6. Putrajaya Night Marathon

Another running event for the masses, the theme for this night run is ‘Define Your Inner Strength’. There will be a full marathon category of 42km, half marathon of 21km, a 10km course, and a 5km fun run. The Full marathon is opened to runners aged 18 and above while the fun run is open to runner as young as 7 and above.

You’ll want to register soon as spots for the 21km and 10km categories are almost full.

7. Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta

Organised by the Royal Selangor Yacht Club together with the RORC, this event is now in its 25th year. The offshore and inshore sailing race consists of three overnight passage races totaling 260 miles plus three days of harbor racing in Penang and Langkawi. The event attracts a variety of yachtcs from top class IRC1 racers to classic cruisers dating over 100 years back. They all have to cope with changing, unpredictable weather and employ creative tactics during the 9 day race past tropical islands.

8. Rockaway Finale

The second and last event of this years Rockaway festival is Rockaway: The Saga Continues will showcase a massive, star-studded line-up including local legends Alleycats, Butterfingers, One Buck short, and a ‘band battle’ between the founding members of OAG and Hujan, plus many more. You don’t want to miss the biggest rock festival in the country.

9. 24 Hour race KL

This special running event is a fight to end slavery. One of Asia’s largest youth led movement, 24 Hour Race, started in Hong Kong in 2010 and has since expanded to Singapore, Seoul, and Kuala Lumpur. For 24 hours, participants race to raise funds, advocate the cause, and bring awareness to the issue. Face: Every 24 hours, 3287 people are sold into slavery.

Runners will participate in teams of 8 which include one Team Leader. Registration for team leaders is now open, and registration for runners will be opened team leader registrations are over.
