5 delicious late-night snacks – and where to get them in Kuala Lumpur

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

This post is brought to you in part by foodpanda.

Imagine the scene: it’s late at night and you’ve got one of those random late-night hunger pangs. You’d do anything for a serving of hot nasi goreng to be brought to your home. Or perhaps, your company has a huge pitch tomorrow so you’re putting in some extra hours at the office. You’re so hungry that you can’t concentrate, but you can’t afford any time to go and buy a meal.

Help is at hand. We’ve picked some of our favourite dishes for nighttime nibbles – and, more importantly, we’ve found the places that will still be serving long after the sun has gone down:

1. Shish kebab

Available at: Aladdin Shisha Lounge & Restaurant, Mont Kiara

The obvious choice for an evening snack – especially for young Brits perhaps – the kebab is not only easy to eat but hugely satisfying. Whether rolled into a wrap with pickles and garlic mayonnaise, or plated up properly with naan bread, fries, and garlic sauce, this Arabic sandwich is always a winner.

2. Pad Thai

Available at: Baan 26 Thai Seafood Restaurant & Bar, Bukit Bintang

Every backpacker’s dream: a hearty portion of freshly-fried prawns, egg, beansprouts, and onions, covered in sauces, spices, and a bit of sugar. Perhaps best enjoyed while sitting on the side of the street along Bangkok’s famous Khao San Road, this iconic Thai dish is (almost) just as delicious in neighboring Malaysia.

3. Chicken rendang

Available at: Devi’s Corner Restaurant, Bangsar

Many foodies would agree that you haven’t visited Kuala Lumpur unless you’ve tasted the banana leaf meal at Devi’s. But even the most ardent fans might find that a bit heavy for an evening meal. So, enter the next best thing: chicken rendang, with aromatic ginger, galangal, garlic, lemongrass, turmeric, and chili, smothered lovingly over tender chicken. It’s the ultimate local comfort food.

4. Pepperoni pizza

Available at: Urbanoefresco, Kota Damansara

Sure, there are plenty of places that do pizza late at night, but there’s something special about a proper Italian-style pizza, with a crispy thin base, covered in gooey melted cheese and spicy cured meats. In this case, the Urbano Man Pizza comes with the restaurant’s signature tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, beef sausage, beef pepperoni, beef bacon, and beef salami. Could this be the pinnacle of late night treats?

5. Kampung fried rice

Available at: Syed Bistro, Bangsar

Satisfy your inner kampung boy or girl – or simply indulge in the taste of the pride of rural, ‘real’ Malaysia, with a dish of authentic Malaysian fried rice. Enjoy the taste of home with crunchy fried vegetables, eggs, and anchovies, in a tasty blend of spices. This is a great way to refuel for a late night of work – or partying!

Great news! All of these are available for home / office delivery

foodpanda is now open for breakfast from 8.30am to midnight, covering supper as well, in KLCC, Ampang, Mont Kiara, Bangsar and Kota Damansara, and starting from 10.30am until midnight in Subang Jaya, Setapak and PJ.
