School Snaps: R.E.A.L Schools Shah Alam Moves Forward by Going ‘Retro’

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

‘Retro I.T.’ was a maiden initiative by R.E.A.L Schools, Shah Alam Campus, to provide an avenue or event for young computer programmers to design their own arcade games such as ‘R.E.A.L Mario’ and ‘Pacman Bot’ – both throwbacks to popular 80s games.

Serving as a competition as well, students presented their innovative game concepts and were evaluated based on gameplay, graphics, sound effects, programming, and presentation. Among the judges were VIP guests from KDU University College who specialize in game development. The R.E.A.L Mario game involved a distinct set of dynamics that tested one’s teamwork, versatility, and intelligence; while Pacman Bot required excellent fortitude and knowledge in robotics.

Retro I.T. was successful in getting students to unleash their creativity and skills in designing games, animation, as well as functioning robots. More importantly however, it provides unique platforms and opportunities for students to pursue their passion, interests, and talents in various fields.
