We realised too late that the school holidays are in fact, happening now. However, in the spirit of lifelong learning and continuous self-development, we went on to have a look at the choices of children’s workshops in KL. Some sessions are running this weekend, and even if you can’t make it for them, you’ll know what to look out for in the future! Whether your child is musically-inclined, loves creating things, or is interested in coding, take a look at these fun workshops for children in KL.

Wood-carving

Here’s a nifty new hobby idea – wood-carving! Children who love working with their hands and creating something will enjoy this workshop. The fees are RM200 per child, and includes all tools needed during the workshop, two small wooden boards (one for practice, and the other for the project itself), and pigment. This workshop will run from 10.30am to 1pm on 26 August 2018, and is suitable for children aged five years and above.

Coding

In this day and age, children are more comfortable with technology than ever. It’s as though their formative months in the womb were spent absorbing tips and tricks on how to install a game app, or send a text. Amazing. For children who are particularly interested in the IT language, take a look at this coding workshop by Code Juniors. This month’s session is held in partnership with Ilham Gallery, who’s playing host. It is suitable for children between five to eight years of age, and priced at RM70 per child. The next workshop will be on 26 August 2018 from 11.30am to 3.30pm – that is the duration for three workshops. Participants can choose to attend just one or all three if they like.

One for tweens interested in crafting story masterpieces, MPH Bookstores is partnering with Brigitte Rozario, author of The Adventures of Beebo and Friends. The workshop will run from 2 to 5pm on 1 September 2018 at the Pusat Kreatif Kanak-Kanak Tuanku Bainun in TTDI. Priced at RM150 per participant, the fees include one copy of The Adventures of Beebo and Friends too. They will learn what goes into a story, how to plan and develop a plot, craft introductions and conclusions, and more.

Kids’ Youtubing

While some might disagree on encouraging children to ‘post everything about their lives’ on social media, this workshop is for children who display potential and interest in producing content in video format. It is actually a 10-month programme designed to teach participants the various types of youtubing segments, how to find their ‘niche’ and go for it, technical skills with laptops and phones, and how to create videos. The programme is suitable for children between seven to 15 years of age.
