Malaysian oil tanker hijacked, say maritime officials

According to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), a Malaysian oil tanker carrying 900,000 litres of diesel has been hijacked and taken to Indonesian waters.

The ship, named the MT Vier Harmoni, has a cargo reportedly worth 1.57m ringgit.

The director of the MMEA, Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar, tweeted that the ship was now believed to be off the Indonesian island of Batam:

The ship was reportedly sailing from Tanjung Pelepas port in Malaysia on Monday when it was seized. The identity of the hijackers is not yet known.
