A patrol ship, Haixun 01, reportedly detected a pulse signal with a frequency of 37.5 kHz in the southern Indian Ocean on the 4th and 5th of April. The pulse signal was picked up by the black box detector by the Haixun 01. Whether or not it is in connection to MH370 is yet to be established.

Chief Coordinator of the Joint Agency Coordination Centre, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, said he was aware of the reports that a Chinese patrol ship detected a pulse, but said that the information cannot be verified at the moment. He said that the characteristics of the report were indeed consistent with the aircraft’s black box.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau are currently in contact with the RCC in China, but no new information has been released or verified.

But, at about 11.30am yesterday, 6 April, Air Chief Marshal Houston confirmed that there were three acoustic signals detected; first acoustic detection was a quick one on Friday, 4 April; the second one was detected less than 2km from the first one, and lasted for about 90 seconds; the third detection was yesterday morning, by the Ocean Shield. Search parties will continue searching the areas.
