Pink Jambu: The Secrets of a Princess' Wardrobe

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

HAVE YOU EVER dreamed about a Princess’ closet and wondered what’s inside? Collections of exquisite pairs of shoes, sparkling diamonds, and Haute Couture dresses are all on the list, but what about a dress made of a fabric designed just for her, with a pattern and thread created to perfectly suit her style? You haven’t got to be a princess to experience this type of luxury; just visit Pink Jambu and prepare to be amazed.

“I do not have particular style of my own,” says Tengku Marina Ibrahim, the brand’s founder and designer. “I prefer to try any design that would highlight the client’s history or background.”

As each fabric is created to suit the client, Pink Jambu does not offer samples of the design collection. Rather, customers look at sample fabrics and then are interviewed by Tengku Marina to allow her to formulate an idea and start drawing their story on the fabric as the pattern design.

Once the initial design is in place, Pink Jambu seeks out skilled batik and songket craftsmen to turn the paper design into a real, beautiful fabric. This unique fabric is then ready to be transformed into a one-of-a-kind dress or blouse that would make any woman feel like a princess. The total procedure can take a few months as everything is made by hand. Fabric prices start from RM3,000 (excluding design fee), but the result will be cherished forever.

This unusual, niche brand was established back in 1992, and is now much sought after in Malaysian high society circles, with clients ranging from royalty to the wives of prime ministers and company executives.

True luxury is allowing yourself to be just as you are, and wearing clothes made from unique fabrics that are styled to suit no one but you. In this, Pink Jambu can deliver. No longer does the Princess’ wardrobe need to be a distant dream!
