Bubbly Sundays at The Westin Kuala Lumpur

“WE LIKE TO call it ‘Fun Dining’,” explains Pavin, the Restaurant Manager at Prego, “and you will see why.” .e mystery didn’t last long – from the ‘bubble girl’ in the lobby and the clown creating balloon animals amid the bobbing of orange balloons at our table to the jubilant, noisy birthday celebrations, Sunday brunch at Prego is anything but stuffy.

While Sunday brunch has long been available at the hotel’s stylish Italian eatery, this weekly event was re-launched in bubbly splendour in July as the Bubbalicious Brunch, where champagne, food, and fun flows in equal measure. Prego can host 158 diners thanks to an the upstairs, downstairs, and outside eating area, but the brunch capacity is limited, ensuring every diner enjoys the lavish attention from the attentive staff that is only matched by the lavishness of the spread on offer.

Drinks are topped up before you have time to compose the thought – the chilled champagne is delicious while fresh smoothies are blitzed on request – leaving you free to fill your plate with the many starters that seem to glitter in the lights. Smoked salmon, freshly-prepared Ceaser salad, various pasta and vegetable salads as well as icy, slippery seafood are super ways to begin the feast, while soup of the day is brought piping to your table. .e Italian touch extends to the main courses of pastas, pizzas, and freshly grilled meats, all of which are brought to you straight from the oven, making it far too easy to say yes to that ratatouille or a piece of the carved roast lamb, and thus eat yourself into oblivion.

Save space for desserts, though, as the buffet features everything from orangey Crème Brulée to fun, homemade pralines that ask “are you bubbalicious enough?” Drinkers can opt for a shooter and dessert combo shaken up to order, while the ice cream and sherbet can be topped with sweets galore for a pudding to cater for the child in all of us.

As if the edibles, beverages, and bubbly vibe of Prego were not enough, the Westin boasts its own kids area, where children can be left to enjoy a buffet of their own (healthy options so don’t panic, parents!), shake up their own smoothie, play games, or watch DVDs under the eyes of two qualified nannies. You may, however, want to keep the family together to share in the energy and fun of the experience, which starts from 11am, when the Prego gang raise their special Bubbalicious flags outside the hotel and gleefully sing their Birthday song, and lasts until whatever time you can bear to leave.
