After Seven Years of Construction, KLIA2 is Now in Operation!

The new budget terminal received its first inbound flight on the 2nd of May, Malindo Air, which flew in from Kota Kinabalu, at 12.05am. The first and historic landing was witnessed by Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) chairman Tan Sri Dr Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah, MAHB managing director Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad and Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) director general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman.

The first takeoff at KLIA2 took place at 3.15am, with Cebu Pacific Airways heading to Manila.

According to Bernama, Malindo Air, Cebu Pacific Airways, Lion Air and TigerAir were the only four airlines operating from out of KLIA2 today. AirAsia will begin operations at KLIA 2 on the 9th of May. AirAsia is expected to bring in about 80% of the traffic.

Gateway@klia2 is also in operations starting today. Gateway@klia2 is a public transportation hub for the ERL, taxi and bus service. It also has a fully gated car park which can accommodate 6,000 vehicles and has a retail space of 350,000 sq ft with over 200 outlets.
