The affluent neighbourhood of Sri Carcosa’s gated community in Seremban faced and caught an “endangered” intruder who effortlessly breached the tightly-controlled security in the middle of the night when the security guards were napping.

According to a report in The Star, a 300kg tapir (tapirus indicus) showed up at the entrance around 2am and ran into the gated area when the security guards attempted to chase it away. They called the Department of State Wildlife and National Parks for assistance about 5 hours later. Officers and Civil Defence personnel immediately arrive to set up a trap.

The State Wildlife and National Parks director Wan Mat Wan Harun confirmed that the tapir has been successfully released into a protected area under the jurisdiction of the department.
