The Oscars which took place this morning at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles was a much anticipated event this year with so many great movies nominated.

The movie Life of Pi, directed by Ang Lee, took home an Oscar for Best Visual Effects, and it is all thanks to some Malaysian talent.

Malaysian animation artists from a local film production studio called Rhythm and Hues Malaysia were behind much of the computer-generated imagery (CGI) effects in Life of Pi, particularly the scenes involving the ocean and Richard Parker, the tiger.

The film, based on Yann Martel’s award-winning book of the same name, also took home the Oscar for Best Director (Ang Lee), Best Original Score and Best Cinematography.

Life of Pi is a fantasy novel about an Indian boy, stranded on a lifeboat with a Bengali tiger named Richard Parker.

Rhythm & Hues was set up in 2009. The talented team behind the company consists mainly of Malaysian talents from local universities and colleges. Congratulations to the Malaysian team on the Oscar win!
