An anti-Lynas gathering held on New Year’s Eve failed to draw in a big crowd.
The peaceful gathering, organised by the Himpunan Hijau anti-Lynas group, in front of the Gebeng industrial area failed to draw an expected big crowd when only 500 people turned up.
According to Bernama, those who gathered were seen huddled under umbrellas due to the light drizzle. The gathered crowd also lighted candles, shouted slogans and held up banners against the Lynas rare earth plant. A poem was also recited by activist and national laureate, Datuk A. Samad, titled ‘The Tortured Land.’
The 500 people who gathered eventually dispersed after the countdown to the New Year.
