OneSixFive: A Scrumptious Food Destination at the InterContinental

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

LOBBY LOUNGES get somewhat overlooked in the F&B world – people tend to arrive at a hotel and make a beeline for one of the restaurants – but thanks to a recent refurbishment and the introduction of a rather sinfully good food and drinks menu, OneSixFive at the InterContinental KL is becoming a food destination in its own right.

Continuing the sparkling style of the lobby, OneSixFive successfully combines comfy sofas and shimmering, modern finishes to create a luxurious lounging experience any time of the day.

Many customers are already wising up to the fantastic Afternoon Tea set that offers both traditional favourites and Malaysian tastes with a twist, but night was falling as I stepped in to admire the long shimmering bar, and I found myself a cosy nook to listen to the jazz band (performing from 7pm daily Mon-Sat) and enjoy some treats from the menu.

The all-day menu offers a careful selection of soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and meaty mains, but the tapas choices are surely the perfect accompaniment to a lazy evening. With such yummy little nuggets as Spanish Meatballs served in a cute little cooking pot and sticky, grilled Chicken Yakitori skewers that are ideal for sharing. The Wagyu Beef Sliders are one of the top sellers, and these dinky, mini burgers see meat meeting Gruyere cheese and red onion relish in a tasty tang.

Choosing food will be one challenge, but turn your attention to the drinks and prepare to be stunned! All manner of wines, spirits, and beers are on offer, but make a beeline for the funky, creative cocktail concoctions; the Master’s Flame was my favourite, relishing as I did the sourish zing of vodka, ginger syrup, lime juice, coriander and red chilis. A welcome discovery was that non-alcoholic drinks are just as exciting too; healthy juices are a fruity treat, while Tea Coolers revolutionise that well-known beverage by combining tea with fruit, flavoured ice, and the odd intriguing addition (an orange ice pop and maraschino cherries in a Vanilla Rooibos tea makes for a delicious glass of Calm Seas).

For those in the mood for nibbling, there is nothing like a good pud, and the selection at OneSixFive is marvellously tempting. Order the Valrhona Chocolate Fondue to share (but prepare to fight over the last homemade marshmallow and chocolatey brownie), but order the Tonka Bean Panna Cotta just for you; this unusual, vanilla-tasting creamy dessert is dotted with fruit and is a seriously good end to your evening.
