Last week, we reported on a collapsed concrete span on a MRT construction site near Sungai Buloh which claimed the lives of three construction workers. The incident resulted in the resignation of the CEO of MRT Corp.

Over the weekend, there was a second MRT mishap, this time, in Cheras. According to The Star, several precast concrete segments fell off a trailer onto a road, which caused massive traffic congestion near the Billion roundabout flyover along Jalan Cheras. The driver of the trailer was carrying 16 segments, and had swerved to avoid colliding with the vehicle in front. When that happened, 12 pieces of the segments fell onto the road, causing a jam that lasted for more than three hours. No one was injured in the incident.

According to reports, the driver of the trailer had 23 years of experience as a lorry driver, and had attended the induction course for transporting segments, which was carried out by the tunnelling contractor, MMC-Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd, for all lorry drivers.
