Make it a point to visit the Annalakshmi restaurant in Brickfields for lunch on Sunday, and you will be served a delicious vegetarian meal (for RM20) by noted Malaysian celebrities.
In an effort to raise money for ‘Sampah Masyarakat’, a volunteer movement which creates awareness to bring behavioural changes in Malaysian’s littering habits, celebrities such as Afdlin Shauki, Daphne Iking, Marina Mahathir, Rina Omar, Samuel J Dass and more, will serve visitors lunch between 11.30am to 3pm on Sunday, 13 January 2013.
According to My Khatulistiwa Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer and ‘Sampah Masyarakat’ founder, M. Shyam Priyah, the event is held to create awareness on cleanliness to the general public.
“The public must understand that the cleanliness of our environment is a shared responsibility, not just for the authorities,” she told Bernama.
“For the past four years, ‘Sampah Masyarakat’ cleaned up Penang and Batu Caves after Thaipusam and Wesak day. We segregate the wastes generated on the clean-up days, sell the recyclables and pump the money back into environmental initiatives,” she said.
‘Sampah Masyarakat’ was founded in 2008. The volunteers gather annually to come together, a day after Thaipusam and Wesak Day to help clean up premises.
