Hundreds of Irish-minded partiers took to the streets and packed Upper Penang

Road on Saturday, March 10 as Guinness continued its St. Patrick’s Daycelebration tour in Malaysia. Decked out in green and black, the entire street oozed a carnival atmosphere with street performers, Irish dancers and, naturally, pints of perfectly poured Guinness beer.

The return of the much awaited Irish celebration was a huge success with over 1,000 people showing up for the event, sporting green and black clothes and hilarious St Paddy’s hats. Many popular pubs including Segafredo, Monkey Bar, Zenzibar, Reggae Club, D’ Joint, Boom Boom Chambre and Soi 11 all participated in the street party which saw visitors, tourists and regulars of every stripe packing the streets of Penang’s popular strip of watering holes.

The event started at 9:00pm, with the emcee firing up the crowd and getting people in the mood for the evening’s festivities to come. At 10:00pm, with the crowds packing Upper Penang Road, the night really came to life with a parade of St. Patrick’s Day-themed entertainers and talents. Mimes, clowns, and Irish dancers paraded down the length of Upper Penang Road while the crowd soaked in the festive atmosphere and enjoyed the crowds and the fun.

In keeping with the spirit of St. Patrick, Irish step dancers made their traditional appearance on that evening, much to the patrons’ delight. Taking over the floor with their toe-tapping dance moves, the Irish dancers managed to inspire many in the crowd to dance along with them.

“The Guinness St Patrick’s celebration has grown in scale every passing year. This year, we are proud to say that we have the biggest St Patrick’s celebration in the whole of Asia. Throughout the month of March, we are bringing St. Patrick’s fun to get people to let their hair down and celebrate the laughter in life. Make sure that you don’t miss out on a Guinness St Patrick’s party that is coming to a city near you!” said Yap Swee Leng, Marketing Director of Guinness Anchor Berhad.
