Print Friendly, PDF & Email

As of 7 August, the Sarawak Health Department had been notified of 772 suspected cholera cases. The total number of hospital admissions as of 7 August was 302. Twenty one of the cases were food handlers who were carriers of the cholera bacteria.

As a precaution, the health department has ordered a temporary closure of the affected food outlets, as well as directed operators to disinfect the premises.

The health department is also closely monitoring the water quality in Bintulu, while the Lembaga Air Kawasan Utara and Public Works Department had increased the chlorine level in the water supplied to the affected areas.

Expat Go Malaysia would like to advise all expats to exercise caution, and to temporary postpone any trips to Bintulu for the time being.
