Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Traffic heading out of Kuala Lumpur has been building up since Thursday (16 August) as city dwellers journey home for the coming festive season.

According to a report in the New Straits Times, traffic was slow on the North-South Expressway, from Seberang Jaya to the Juru toll plaza and congested at the Rawang interchange on the north bound route, and from Machap to Ayer Hitam on the south bound route.

Traffic is expected to increase in volume tonight (17 August) especially, as more Muslims make their way back to their home town.

According to the article, traffic on the North-South Expressway will see an increase of 500,000 vehicles while vehicles travelling along the East Coast Expressway are expected to increase from 32,843 to 130,000 this weekend alone.

To help ease traffic congestion, PLUS will set up extra toll booths and will also increase their 24-hour patrol unit for safety measures.

Traffic is expected to be heavily congested heading out of Kuala Lumpur for the next two days. Expat Go Malaysia would like to advise all expats to be safe, stay calm and patient when on the road. Listen to traffic updates and plan your journey well.

Those traveling through PLUS highway can call 1-800-880-000 for traffic updates, directions and detours.
