Launch of New Taxi Programme in Malaysia

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

For many expats, tourists, and business travellers, poor taxi service is among the chief complaints about KL. There are encouraging signs on that front now, as some 4,000 taxi drivers in the Klang Valley have been trained as tourism ambassadors. Taxis displaying a Malaysian Tourism Tag will be operated by a specially trained driver who has completed a special course and been evaluated through a set of certain criteria. The drivers will also carry a badge and be given holders containing tourism brochures for each state in Malaysia.

Last year there were more than 2,500 formal complaints against taxi drivers. We certainly hope that this programme can introduce a new role for taxi drivers here and encourage other drivers to follow the new standards being set.
