Dolphins off the coast of Penang? Believe it or not, it is true!

A video posted on Facebook by a user named Kai Hong shows a school of dolphins swimming off the coast, near the second Penang Bridge.

According to an article on The Malaysian Insider, the short video clip has since been widely shared on Facebook and other social networking sites.

Kanda Kumar from the Malaysian Nature Society Penang branch says that it is not unusual to see dolphins swimming off the coast of Penang. He said that Bottlenose dolphins have been known to swim across Penang’s northern channel all the time, but no one ever noticed because the dolphins never surfaced.

“Dolphin sightings off the coast of Penang used to be quite common more than two decades ago but these sightings have dwindled over the years. In the past two years, however, dolphin sightings have started cropping up again and in recent months, a few dead dolphins also have washed ashore”, the Malaysian Insider reports.
