Cost of Recruiting Maid to Increase in Malaysia

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The cost of recruiting Indonesian maids to Malaysia will increase, compared to the initial amount agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Malaysian and Indonesian governments in 2011, Bernama reports.

The 2011 MOU stated an employer had to pay RM4,511 to recruit an Indonesian maid. This cost involved a total of RM2,711 which would be borne by the employer while RM1,800 (the maid’s payment) would be advanced by the employer to the employment agency.

The increase is necessary as the cost agreed upon during the MOU could not be implemented because it only involved the cost incurred by employers and maids only.

“The cost structure agreed earlier was RM4,511 as payment for the recruitment of an Indonesian maid by the employer to the agency including the RM1,800 payment for the maid’s advance by the employer to the employment agency,” said Datuk Raja Zulkepley Dahalan, Malaysia National Association of Employment Agencies (PIKAP), after the signing of an MOU between Asosiasi Perusahaan Jasa Tenaga Kerja Indonesia (APJATI), PIKAP and the Malaysian Association of Foreign Maid Agencies (PAPA).

The government will soon reveal the final cost.
