What brought you to Malaysia?
I came for work and have been here for five years. I’ve been saying “just one more year” for the past five…

What were your impressions of Malaysia before you came?
I didn’t have any impressions of Malaysia to be honest, as it’s the first different country I have lived in since I left my hometown.

If you had to pick a sound, smell, and taste to define Malaysia, what would they be?
To me it would be a very sunny beautiful day – quiet and peaceful– which is contrasted by the taste of cold, juicy, sweet fruits.

What are the three things you like most about living in Malaysia?
I like many more than three, but will name a few: the weather (year-round sunshine), the local tropical fruits, and the fauna. It is actually very beautiful here – the flowers, tropical trees and plants – and is inspirational for painters and artists whom, as far as I know, travel to Malaysia to sketch or maybe create an art piece.

What do you dislike about living in Malaysia?
I dislike not being able to buy certain things I like.

Where would you take an overseas visitor?
I would definitely take my overseas visitors to the islands – either Tioman or Perhentian. I would probably take them to Genting Highlands and, for sure, to The Loaf café and bakery for a cup of cappuccino.

Name three typical weekend activities that you enjoy.
I enjoy drawing: it’s my hobby and passion. I like to get some exercise such as going to the gym, the swimming pool, or doing yoga. I also like travelling but, the best of all of course, is spending time in the company of my dear friends.

What are your favourite bars and restaurants?
My favourite restaurant would be an Italian one – Prego or Vineria – and probably the Japanese Kampachi. And I don’t know a person who doesn’t like the Tarbush! I like it, too!
