Let us briefly look into the various internet strategies you can use to help you search online for jobs Malaysia.

Use Online Job Search Engines and Websites: Indeed, JobStreet, Monster, and LinkedIn

Online job search engines work just like Google or any other search engine with the only difference being that these sites only index job information from company career pages, newspaper classifieds, job websites, job boards, blogs, etc. You also get to know about job trends and salaries in your field of interest.

Job Websites: A great example of job search engine is Indeed. When you visit the site, you will find that searching a job on the site is as easy as searching something on a general search engine  However, you notice there is a lot ads for jobs available, which not align exactly to your search.  You can also search for jobs through sites like JobStreet Malaysia, Monster Malaysia, and LinkedIn where companies actually advertise job openings. You can post your resume on these sites and the potential employers and consultants actually get back to you through email if your profile matches their requirements. You can also proactively scout through these sites and apply for jobs that interest you.

Company Websites: Lastly, make sure to visit companies’ websites. One of the first places a company will typically post a job opening is on their website. So, if you’re looking for a job, and you’re interested in a particular company, make sure to keep checking the website out.

Use Social Networking Websites: Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn

Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter today are much more than online spaces where you socialize. Every big and small company today has a profile on these sites and most companies even use them to announce job openings and invite resumes. So, if you’re interested in working for specific companies, definitely follow their social media accounts. However, there are certain things you must keep in mind before venturing into job hunt through social networking sites.

You must decide what you want to reveal professionally and carefully choose your friend list.  Many times a company will be able find access to see some or all of your professional profile. Thus, even your likes and subscriptions should be aimed towards your goal of securing a job. You need to project yourself as a thorough professional to the company, which could potentially hire you. So, always post content that is appropriate.

Create a Professional Network through LinkedIn

LinkedIn is without a doubt the leading social media site for the professional world. If you’re looking for a professional job, you need to have a profile on here. Many major multinationals, such as eBay and Microsoft, are known to use LinkedIn for recruitments.

Create a Profile and Build Your Network. The most important thing on LinkedIn is your profile as this is what lets you connect with new contacts and potential employers. Always ensure that your profile is up-to-date, along with your most recent resume and photograph. You should make it easy for your employers to find you by adding relevant keywords and skills to your profile, which the site easily allows you to do.

You could also provide links to your blogs or contacts who can act as potential referrals. Keep in mind that LinkedIn is a networking site so a big network will result in better visibility. Thus, make sure to connect with your colleagues and business associates that you’ve worked together with well. Even better, try to get recommendations from current and previous employers through the site, so that future employers have a ready reference and can build confidence about hiring you.
