Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Shazam-720x400

Do you ever hear a song, but don’t know what it is and wish you did? Then you should download Shazam.

Shazam is an app that will let you recognize the song you are listening to practically instantly. It even gives you information like the name of the artist, track and even lyrics.

All you need to do is hold the microphone of your smartphone to collect a sample of the music that is being played. This takes less than 15 seconds. The app then creates an acoustic fingerprint based on the sample and matches it with a central database to bring you the details about the music you are listening.

You can get Shazam on your devices such as iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Windows phones, iPad and iPod Touch.

There are three versions of this app – Shazam is a free version, while Shazam Encore and Shazam Red are paid. The paid versions of the app are ad-free and available in several languages. With Shazam Red, the company claims that about 20% of the purchase price goes to HIV/AIDS programs in Africa.

Additional Features of Shazam

The Shazam Friends feature gives you a live feed of your friends’ tags. You can then preview and buy tracks adding them to your tag lists. You can also watch videos, and get reviews and bios on the tracks. The app also offers Unlimited Tagging for more lyrics and music. The LyricPlay feature of the app offers you full-screen lyrics when you are listening to a particular track, which can be a great way to learn the songs.

The Discover and Buy Music feature of the app lets you identify what song is being played and purchase it instantly.

Services such as Spotify, YouTube and iTunes are incorporated in this app for your convenience. It also gives you recommendations where you can discover similar music based on kind of tracks you like. Certain features like Launch a Station are only available to US users through Pandora Apps or last.fm where you can create a station using the music you have tagged.
