Sunway Pyramid has been accredited by MySihat (Malaysian Health Promoting Board) as Malaysia’s first Health Promoting Mall (HPM)! HPM is part of MySihat’s initiative to put shopping malls as a recreational setting that promotes the well-being of shoppers, visitors, employees, tenants and the local community.
The launch of Sunway Pyramid – Healthy Living: Health Promoting Mall was officiated by the Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam on 19 November 2013, with the Founder and Chairman of Sunway Group Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah AO, Chairman of Malaysian Health Promoting Board (MySihat) Tan Sri Dato Sri Dr Hj Mohd Nasir b Mohd Ashraf, CEO of MySihat Datuk Dr. Yahya Baba, Corporate Advisor of Sunway Group Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, Managing Director of Sunway Property Investment Division Dato’ Ngeow Voon Yean, CEO – Sunway REIT Dato’ Jeffrey Ng,COO of Sunway Shopping Malls Kevin Tan, along with Sunway Medical Centre and MySihat officials in the audience.
“Sunway Pyramid has now become more than just a shopping centre, it’s also a one stop centre for healthy lifestyles and entertainments,” said Tan Sri Navaratnam.
“With us being the Malaysia’s first Health Promoting Mall accredited by MySihat, it is hoped that our shoppers will join in our quest to become healthier, leading a much fitter life when they shop here.
“The Health Promoting Mall campaign is also part of Sunway Resort City’s global initiative to curb smoking by moving towards becoming a Smoke-Free Township.
The launch also revealed the 3 main icons for Sunway Pyramid’s HPM: The “Beat It”, “Pump It” and “Ease It” characters. Aptly named so, “Beat It” focuses on being fit and active – getting your hearts’ rate beating healthily, “Pump It” is all about keeping your lungs clean from smoking and “Ease It” relates to choosing your food wisely, in making your stomach healthy.
From now till 31 March 2014, the mall encourages shoppers to participate in the Pedometer Challenge. All they have to do is complete 10,000 steps in 90 minutes to win limited edition prizes. The Ultimate Pedometer Challenge from 20 Nov – 8 Dec 2013 sets shoppers on a roll to be the fastest to complete 10,000 steps within 60 minutes. The winners will walk away with fabulous prizes such as Fitness Concept Outdoor Folding Bike for the Grand Prize, Nike Products and Puma Goodie Bags.
Sunway Pyramid also produced a booklet – “Fit for Thought”, containing some tips on eating right, combating flabbiness through exercise and ways to snack healthily. Shoppers can pick up “Fit for Thought” in the mall, and in addition, this booklet also provides a few fashion tips that they can follow while sweating out the fat cells – “When you feel good, you look good!”
