Name: Lili Budiman
Home Country: Indonesia
Other countries you have lived in: Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore

What brought you to Malaysia?
I came to KL because I was setting up a new company with some friends. I have been here for about 13 years so far, and they have all been good years! I have enjoyed myself.

What do you like or dislike about the country?
I like the culture and some of the beautiful scenic, nature-friendly places here. I dislike some reckless car drivers here.

Name three typical weekend activities you enjoy most.
I enjoy swimming (due to the great weather), networking with new people, eating, and shopping.

What is your favourite holiday destination here? Why?
Genting Highlands – because it’s near enough to make a day trip, and if you feel like staying a little longer, you can always spend the night there.

Describe a memorable eating experience you have had here.
I really like some Japanese buffet restaurants here, where they provide endless supplies of sushi and tempura foods. My favourite!

What do you miss most about your home country?
I miss my family of course, and I also miss the food back home.

Is Malaysia a good place to work and do business in? Why?
I think Malaysia is a great place to do business. Most of the people here are open-minded when it comes to new business opportunities, so I’d say that it’s a fairly easy place to make a living.

Is Malaysia a good country to raise children? Why?
I would think so, yes. So far, I feel like the country is much safer compared with other Southeast Asian countries.

What advice would you give to a newly arrived expat?
The best thing would be to get advice from other expats from your home country and ask for some basic information about KL or Malaysia in general before you arrive – so you have an idea as to how things work. Then, soak up as much of the country as possible when you arrive.
