A Malaysian woman, Catherine Chin Wan Ping Coombes, is the winner of MasterChef UK 2014.

Although based in the UK, Ipoh-born Catherine wowed the judges by cooking and presenting classier versions of some Malaysian favourites.

Catherine surprised judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace by cooking a three-course Malaysian meal consisting of wanton soup for starters, nasi lemak for the main meal and a vanilla and coconut pannacotta dessert with charred pineapple, freeze-dried mango and pineapple and lime air.

The final challenge of the tenth series of MasterChef UK was aired on BBC One in the UK on the 16th of May. Catherine won the final challenge, beating finalists Jack Lucas and Luke Owen.

In 2009, KL-born Poh Ling Yeow was the runner-up of the first season of MasterChef Australia. In 2011, Penang-born Adam Liaw won the second season of MasterChef Australia. KL-born Alvin Quah also entered the second season of MasterChef Australia but only made it to the final six before being eliminated. Currently, Malaysian-born Natasha Shan is competing in the sixth season of MasterChef Australia.

Catherine is a former hotel manager and is currently a full-time mother.
