What brought you to Malaysia?
I had only ever worked in UK, and after a while, wanted to try something new. At the end of 2012, I decided to move to Malaysia and start a new chapter of my life. I have been here ever since, and I have no regrets.

What do you like and dislike about living here?
That’s easy – I love the food here! It’s amazing how different Asian cuisine tastes here, compared to what you get in the UK. Not to mention, delicious food is available here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! The one thing I absolutely dislike here would have to be the traffic – it’s crazy how you can sit in traffic for hours here in KL, and only have moved such a short distance! I definitely don’t enjoy that.

Name three typical weekend activities that you enjoy.
I love catching up with friends over a coffee or for a meal, travelling to nearby cities or beaches (luckily there are great beaches nearby!), and shopping in some of the biggest malls I have ever seen.

What is your favourite holiday destination in Malaysia or in the region? Why?
My favourite holiday destination has to be Langkawi. Every time I go there I feel so much at peace. There’s no traffic, the food is great and life definitely moves much slower there. It’s truly a place where I can go and just relax and escape the hustle and bustle of KL.

Describe a memorable eating experience you have had here.
There is a mamak stall on Petaling Street that serves the best ikan bakar I have ever had in my life! I recommend it to anyone who has a strong stomach and can handle really spicy food, because it’s worth it.

Do you own property here? If so, where?
No, I find property here rather expensive, especially in the city so until I am certain I want to live here for an extended period of time, I shall not be investing just yet.

What do you miss most about your home country?
I miss my friends and family of course. And the fact that Spain is so close that a weekend getaway there is possible! It’s one of my favourite destinations in the world.

What advice do you have for newlyarrived expats?
Soak up the sunshine even if it is very hot, experience the culture, taste the amazing food and blend in with the locals. You will never look back!

Is Malaysia a good country to raise children in? Why?
In my opinion it’s a great country to raise children in. There’s many international schools, the culture, lifestyle and family values here are brilliant and I think it will definitely be a rewarding experience.

How long do you plan to stay in Malaysia? Where would you like to go next, and why?
I have no idea how long I am going to be in Malaysia but for now, I’m not planning on going anywhere. I guess I will just have to wait and see where the wind blows. of course the chilled-out lifestyle makes up for a lot!
