Every week we’ll be bringing you the best of the rising local music scene in Malaysia. Here is a list of three bands you can catch performing live this week:

1. Dotter’s Division

22nd January 2016, 9pm

Dotter’s Divsion is an all-female band, consisting of Melissa (vocals and electric guitar), Audrey (saxophone), Linet (keyboard), Jie Er (bass), and Rebecca (drums).

Their music ranges from funky 80s to current hits, and the songs they choose to play are definitely not common amongst most bands in Malaysia.

2. Saturday Afternoon

Saturday Afternoon hails from Kuala Lumpur and are compromised of members Fariz Salleh (guitar), Melissa Toh (vocals), Dianne Lim (vocals and guitar) and Deo Mareza (percussion).

Their style of music is mostly acoustic folk, with subtle metal undertones as Fariz tries to incorporate something a little heavier  into even the most mellow of songs.

They are playing at the Female Benefit Gig, which will also feature other performers such as Priscillia Xavier, Karen Nunis, Billie Blue Blackstone, Rozella, and Lisa Spykers. All donations will be given to the Malaysian Women’s Aid Organization (WAO).

3. The Metaphor

24th January 2016, 8.30pm

The Metaphor, consisting of Tomas Tam ( vocals and guitar), Sze Yee (guitar), Kelvin Hew (bass), Ling (keyboard and piano), and Izzy Musa (drums and percussion), are a post-rock band from Kuala Lumpur who formed in 2010.

They were one of the nominees for VIMA Awards on the category of Best Instrumental / World Music on 2011 with the song “Rebirth”. They have two releases; Preface EP (2010) and The Metaphor (2014).

The Bee will be celebrating the Moonshine Anniversary, hosted by Moonshine Productions. Other talents who will be featured are Q Sound, Brendan Dcruz, Az Samad, Jumero, Nadir, Daniel C, and Reza Sallleh.
