Print Friendly, PDF & Email

With close to 30 years of experience, Tang Hong Lee’s amazing abstract artworks have only gotten more impressive over the years. He is known for his trademark use of bold colour and designs, and his work is often reflective of different landscapes. Originally from Pahang, Hong Lee is now settled in Kuala Lumpur, where he also taught Fine Arts at the Kuala Lumpur College of Arts for several years before returning to painting full-time.

As you can see from his latest series, ‘Nature Spectacles’, Hong Lee uses colour in vast expressions, compositions, and shades to create mesmerising pieces of art that individually, will certainly be a focal point of any space in which it is placed. Known as a colourist, he has successfully blended complementing and contrasting colours with unique patterns and designs to create abstract masterpieces. The oil paintings are evocative and although they resemble rich landscapes such as waterfalls and forests, they somehow speak to one’s emotions as well, with grand gestures, explosions of colour, and fluid, confident strokes.

A veteran in the art scene and strong believer of using his art to engage and communicate the viewer, Tang questions the natural elements that are all around us, in this latest series. He explores themes of mystical power, spirituality, and surrealism. After all, this is what abstract artwork is at the core, the ability to make the viewer explore his or her own subjective interpretation of the work in an introspective way.

Hong Lee’s latest series is not only beautiful, but enchanting. The soft-spoken and humble man has clearly found his path by improving on his techniques and delivering consistently stunning pieces of art, and using colour as his driving focus.
